Blogging Made Easy

It is certainly not easy being a blogger more so if you are a newbie just like me. You see, I like to read blogs so when my wife suggested that I blog, I said sure, why not. It never crosses my mind how hard it is to be one. To consistently develop new ideas, the time spend on research, shortening my life span with every puff, a big sip of caffeine in between and the blurry eyes for watching the monitor for too long, why did I sign up for this?

So after setting up my blogger account and choosing the default template, there I was sitting in front of my PC not knowing what to write. Don't worry my wife had told me, just choose a subject and write what you think and the juice would flow. Yeah, right..it's my gastric juice that flowed.

I'm sure most of you will agree that when we started blogging, we start to view blogs in a different way. Its not only the post content that catches your eyes, the layout, the colors, every tiny bits would be scrutinized. You would then try to make your blog different from other default templates and start customizing it.

You start to know more about the java scripts, widgets and so many other things. It will become an obsession for awhile until you are satisfied with what you see. Once that phase is over, your only concern is to get ideas and things to write.

If only writing a blog could be effortless. I googled to find the hidden secret of those pro-bloggers and I believe I have stumbled upon one. It is such a well hidden secret that only the celebrity blogger knew and he unconsciously uncovers it for me to discover.

In that particular posting, the celebrity blogger just wrote 24 words and has accumulated 59 comments as of the time of this writing. Okay..okay..you also need to pose in a silly way and in a silly costume for good measure.

It does really look so simple, ain't it?. He would definitely disagree. It looks easy now but the years he spend to climb to the top ain't rosy. But I still believe there's something else he is hiding. He has the secret magic potion that could charm anybody in the blog world.

If he ever decide to sell his secret potion, I'll buy the whole lot. So if next time you see a posting of mine with less than 24 words, 1 picture and 60 comments, you know you've been charmed by my new blog charmer secret magic potion.

Yes, its a mouthful to say and it should then be very potent. The agonizing difficulty in preparing and writing a blog is a thing of the past, so you've been warned.

Super Security Suitcase

Now we have no reason to fear of carrying cash or other valuable items in a suitcase as Mangal Security Equipment Company has introduced an 'Anti Theft Shock Suitcase'.

The suitcase security solution is very simple yet highly effective. As an anti-theft and lost proof suitcase, it comes equipped with various functions, such as special anti-theft and anti-robbery with high voltage shock covering the outer surface.

Just like an ordinary suitcase but with added security features

So how does it works? Its main security functions are:

  1. It can emit high-voltage pulse electric shock and high decibel alarm for protection. The high-voltage pulse output power voltage exceeds 30 kV.
  2. It has the remote radio control function which you can turn on or off the switch remotely.
  3. The customer can then choose the most effective modes, either only for the alarm to set off or together with the electric shock. The modes to choose are “anti-loss-proof”, “theft-proof” and “anti-robbery”.

In anti-loss proof mode, alarm will ring automatically to remind you once the distance between you and the suitcase exceed 3-15m.

Should you need to leave the bag for awhile, you can just set it on “theft-proof” mode. If a thief touches any parts of the suitcase, the alarm and electric pulse will be activated. Even the master is absent, the robber and thief can do nothing to his goods.

If you are threatened by a robber, for protection, you shall give it up first, Once the distance between you and the robbery are within 50m, you can set “anti-robbery” mode on the remote control. Alarm will ring and high-voltage electric pulse will take effect, which will force the robber to leave it and ran away. Useful function for your safety under bad robbery situation.

The only drawback I can see is that if it falls into the wrong hands. Criminals can use it to good effect and terrorists would certainly love it too.

Hopefully the suitcase will come with this label on it.

Another Peace Meeting On The Table

According to Reuters, Israeli and Palestinian negotiators are meeting this week in Washington to try and work towards the U.S. goal of achieving a comprehensive peace deal.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice plans to meet separately, and then together, with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and former Palestinian Prime Minster Ahmed Qurei, the two sides' lead negotiators.

If there really is a way to end the six-decade conflict is only by implementing the "winner takes all" approach.

I'm not suggesting hardcore blood bath but more of a subtle approach. Something that could clear the long standing feud yet providing delightful entertainment to the world.

Maybe they could engaged in playing Counter Strike just like in Cybergames, Royal Rumble just like WWE or even UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) style.

Think about it, innocent citizens wouldn't get hurt and everyone can go on and live their lives in peace. No more bombings and problem solved.

If only this could happen in the real world...

Sabotage and Confidentiality Breach

PDRM claimed the leaked medical report is an attempt to sabotage police investigations and create confusion among the people. Is that so?

Yes, the PDRM is correct on the confusion part because now I am confused. Confused on why has it taken PDRM so long to close up the investigations when they have already know the outcome?

Whoever is in charge of the investigations, please be righteous and investigate thoroughly. You know who's your real boss. He's not in Putrajaya or Bukit Aman and one day you will need to explain yourself.

In another report, Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai is concerned on how the medical report was leaked, which is a breach of patient confidentiality. He has directed its DG to look into the matter to ensure that professionalism is maintained.

This report is so important because its the difference between sending a man to jail or to Putrajaya. If this is any ordinary MR, I guess he couldn't care less. Professionalism?

Power Changes A Person

Have you ever notice how power could easily change a person? I'm not even writing about politician here. The roots of evil power starts at very young age. I remembered my school days, where some prefects are simply there to make your life miserable. If you somehow crossed their path to glory, they would purposely try to find faults and you're forever in their little black book.

The same scenario still exists today. I have seen the same behavior at my son's primary school. They will wait at the school gate and to those who unfortunately came late, they will get a scolding. Not content with writing names in the book, they would hurled verbal abuse to the dread kids. I have heard those remarks with my own ears. Coming out from the mouth of 10 -12 years old kids, I'm not impressed.

Who can blame them? They are learning the same exact behavior from the surrounding adults. Power crazy adults to be precise. We have seen them everywhere from top to bottom. First example, the police that is supposed to serve and protect. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying all of them but their numbers I'm sure it is enough to even match the Jom Heboh visitors. I do have had the experience of nice encounters with good mannered and righteous policemen but my encounter with the not so ethical and insolent is much more.

How many times have you been greeted with just this,"Lesen" and "IC"? Only those two words when they flagged you down. Of course, the conversation will be much friendlier once you decide to play ball. Again I stress that I did met several policemen whom greeted and treated me in a benevolent way.

Okay, now we focus on non-uniforms people with power. The people whom with a stroke of a pen could sent you off to never never land. You guess right, the almighty high ranking officers, ministers and politicians. Their influence and power could even put the Jedi Obi Wan Kenobi to shame. No connections, no money, no value so no talk. They are not there to serve us, its we who need to serve them. Who can blame them? "Sudah beri betis, hendak paha" and "Bila besar periuk, besarlah keraknya".

Again I reiterate, not all of them is like that. Another malay proverb, "Kerana nila setitik, rosak susu sebelanga". So whom should we blame? We are the ones to be blame. We glorify them, calling them Yang Berhormat, Datuk and Tan Sri, we lay the red carpet on their arrival, we kiss their hand and in short we put them on a pedestal.

This kind of mentality is damaging and I've had enough of this sucking up nonsense. Instead, they should earn the respect only by fulfilling their responsibilities and promises to us. Not the other way round.

Hopefully the day will come when people bestowed with power will apply the old proverb,”Ikutlah resmi padi, makin tunduk, makin berisi”.

Thank You ACA

ACA seized 8 of the 16 Proton Perdanas for Terengganu’s executive councillors to help them in the investigation. The Terengganu MB was reported saying the exco members would continue to use the Mercedes pending completion of ACA’s investigations and it would take some time so they will continue to use it.

Troublesome indeed but please take your time ACA. We certainly do not want you to rush things and failing to nab all the culprits. This must be in their mind for those who were left with the "inconvenience" of having to using the new Mercedes for their official duties.

Those who had to continue using the old Perdana while their colleagues being whisked around in the shinning black Merc must be cursing their lucky star. Don' worry, you'll get your ride when the spotlight is off.

Meanwhile, Proton in effort to clean their image after all the negative headlines has offered a free audit of the cars owned by all state governments. They will also continue to work with and support the Anti-Corruption Agency and will take action if anyone is found to be involved in any wrongdoings.

I really do pity Proton. What a mess that they had to clean up. My only advice is to really start caring for your domestic customers. Make sure your account managers for Government sector are not just waiting at their desk waiting for "P.O windfall". Wake up and smell the coffee. Things are not going to be much easier.

On another related matter, firstly, why would the government need Spanco when they can just deal directly with the manufacturers? Secondly, even if they do need one company for centralize distribution, why is the contract for 25 years and at 100mil per year? and even after reducing the the contract by 20% to RM80mil annually, it is still excessive. That's what I called, free breakfast, lunch and dinner...not at your ordinary mamak joints.

Both Perdana's Losing Grip

A day after Pak Lah announced the cabinet decision to allow the use of Terengganu's new sparkling Mercedes only for VIP guests, an exco member was spotted driving his Merc to the Flora Fest in Johor. He's one of three other exco members who are using the newly purchased Mercedes-Benz E200 Kompressor cars despite a Cabinet directive against doing so.

Terengganu Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Za’abar Mohd Adib when asked whether his action was going against Abdullah's decision, he said: “That was not my intention.” “I think the matter will be discussed at the next exco meeting,” he said.

So now who's the big boss? the PM or CM? Good grip there Mat Said.

Anyway, as I have predicted, the floodgates are opening and it spells trouble for another Perdana. In Penang, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said they may purchase Toyota Camry cars for official use in the future, since the Toyota Camry were cheaper than the Proton Perdana V6. I'm sure there will be more revelation from other states soon.

Both our Perdana Menteri and Proton Perdana are losing their grips. So mirror, mirror on the wall, who's gonna survive this long fall?

Passion for old F1

The Legends : Senna, Prost, Mansell & Piquet

I truly miss the old generation of F1. I grew up watching the likes of Senna, Prost, Mansell and Piquet serving us a real drama on the tracks. That was the era of true racing when wheel to wheel contact is just another weekend of hard racing. Those days, cars were turbo powered and manual transmission stick gear changes still being used. Just imagine driving a car that generate enormous amount of g-force with literally one hand while the other hand had to constantly change gears- thousands of times. At Monaco, an F1 driver will make a gear change every 2 seconds on average.

After Senna's death and retirement of the likes like Prost and Mansell, comes the era of Micheal Schumacher. At that time, I really don't see anything special about him. In my book, Senna was and still the greatest driver. As time goes by, I could see he's almost the same as Senna, a perfectionist and hates losing although Senna was more emotional. Those qualities pushes them to the top and staying there.

I still remembered watching Senna's biography on his qualifying domination's. During a qualifying session, he went out early to set the fastest time and then left the pit with more than 15 minutes left in the session. Another example was he had already got pole and with less than 5 minutes of the qualifying session remaining, he went out again to try and beat his own time, which he did. The only reasons he did all that was to have a psychology advantage and crush his opponents confidence.

I used to be able to sit in front of the TV for the whole race duration watching and listening to the legendary motorsport commentator Murray Walker. Nowadays, I still watch the race albeit the first few minutes when the race starts and nearing the chequered flag. Why? because F1 races of today are won in the pits and not on the track. Mr Bernie, give me a real F1 race like the last 10 laps of the race in Hockenheim and I give you my utmost attention.

There is no end to the Malaysia Politics Pointing Fingers competition. If this type of "sports" be included in Beijing next month, we would win fingers down. It has almost been a no holds barred duels where only one will win and the rest losing. The biggest loser is us, the rakyat. Say what you want, do what you want but this land isn't Japan where leaders takes responsibilities for any wrongdoings.

Are our leaders sincerely cares about the well-being of the rakyat? If they do, I guess they are not showing it because I'm getting only the wrong signals. It seems whatever decisions that they made, is only to protect their cronies and themselves. Call me critical but I prefer apprehensive.

Some, if not most would felt the same way as me after following the news this past week. The remarks and decisions made by our leaders had left me flabbergasted. Some of my friends sees it as entertainment and part of interesting things to talk about at their local coffee joint.

Just look at some of the headlines today;

1. Terengganu MB: Probe Monsoon Cup,Islamic Park and Spanco too - He told reporters that ACA should not only go after him but to investigate the Monsoon Cup, Islamic Civilisation Park and Spanco, the service agent engaged to maintain Federal government vehicles. He stressed that the ACA should be transparent by also going after the ‘big’ cases. Summary - The MB obviously is applying the diversion tactics.

2. PM : Mercs for use by state's VIP guests only - Terengganu can keep its 14 Mercedes but could only be used for visiting dignitaries. Since the cars have been bought and to sell them would only result in a loss, this is what the cabinets have decided. Summary - Why not the same decision as MV Agusta? This loss should be whole lot lesser. This time when we sell definitely not for 1 Euro.

3. Idris may sue over Perdana issue - Ex-MB contemplating legal action against the Terengganu government for putting him in a bad light over the Proton Perdana V6 Executive controversy. Summary - He's worried about that slight miscalculation? Sir,your image is already tarnished, okay.

4. Sarawak: BMW and Mercedes rule - It is a non-issue as the official cars for ministers had always been either the Mercedes Benz, BMW and Jaguar while head of departments prefers Japanese makes like Toyota and Honda. Chief Minister official car is the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow and his two deputies the BMW 7 series. Fortunately, there are others who prefer to use their own cars like Datuk Seri Dr James Masing, Datuk Michael Manyin and Larry Sng. Summary - Taxpayers money well spend, eh.

Who's worried with the state of affairs in our beloved country? You? Me? No, we're not. We're just sick of it. 2x5=5x2

A Kid With Full Of Reasons

Kids today are smart. Why? Maybe because nowadays they have access to 24hrs TV, internet and all kind of stuff that my generation and the generation before did not have. Some might add that the abundance of nutritional foods that is available easily today adds to the equation on the why and how kids are smarter today.

Others would also like to add that because of the race for excellent academics results, parents today start their kids formal educational earlier. It is norm to see children as young as 4 years old attending kindergarten while I was still enjoying carefree life at that age.

Somehow, the increase of IQ at young age translates to being clever at giving all kind of reasons, at least that's the case with my kids.

For example, let's look at my younger son. He'll be 6 years old this December and still thinks he's way younger than that. When he first started attending kindergarten, he hates it. He can barely read and writes as he wishes.

What he's good at is memorizing car makes and models. When we are on the road, he can easily recognize and pin-point most of the cars names. Everytime an Evo, Subaru, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari, Mini Cooper etc passed by, he'll yelled out its name. Ask him alphabets and numbers, he'll frown.

Each time I asked him whether he has any homework from school, his first answer would be NO. Here's are some of the reasons he'll gave me each time I asked him to check his bag for homework;

1. I have done it at school.

2. Teacher said to do it tomorrow.

3. Teacher don't want to give homework.

4. Teacher said dad and mom not allowed to check my bag.

5. I would do it with teacher at school later.

6. I left my homework at school.

7. You are not a teacher. You can't teach me.

8. I'm tired and sleepy.

This is what experts called "Selective Behavior & Memory". They would only do and memorize what interests them. Parents natural act of pushing or pressing would then be a catalyst for rebellious tendency. So what we should do is to lead them to what we hoped them to do.

Well that's the theory anyway. It's never easy raising a child and my hats off to those who have been successful in bringing them up to be a successful and respected human being. A prodigious feat indeed. Now where's the Dummy's Guide to that?

Honda Super Cub

The world's highest selling motorcycle series has hit a production run of 60 million units worldwide last April. The legendary model also celebrates its 50th anniversary in August, as the first Honda Super Cub C100 was introduced in Japan in 1958.

The name 'Cub' was said to be the acronym of "Cheap Urban Bike" because the development of this model was aimed to provide a kind of cheap urban transportation in busy cities.

1958 Honda Super Cub

The Honda Cub series is currently being produced at 16 plants in 15 countries and has been a long-selling product sold in more than 160 countries around the world.

I was one of the proud owner of such awesome bike. Mine was a C70 which I had dearly abused, and it had served me faithfully albeit twice major overhaul. On that bike I can honestly say that I can sweep any corners flat out coz it can only hit 90km/h max. So 0-100km/h time is irrelevant. But it did feel frightening fast when you turn the throttle all the way in the campus area.

Long live the king!

Let's Buy The Mercedes E200K

This morning, a friend told me that I wasn't fair of my criticism here and here on the Terengganu state decision to use Mercedes E200K as their official car. He further stressed that we need to give them enough time to response and explain their situation. So fair enough, I am willing to wait and listen. After all, they were handpicked by the King himself. They must have had a very good track record serving the rakyat.

Anyway, here are some of our conversations that I find interesting. Edited to be in the nicest tones;

Friend : Why are you so angry with them buying Mercedes? Would you be happy if they were to buy other makes, lets say Honda or Toyota?

Me : I'm angry because at times like this when leaders were asking us to spend wisely, they go on and buy new luxury cars. I wouldn't say I'll be happy if they chose other cars but maybe less angry. But why luxury cars like Mercedes and not Toyota?

Friend : So what you're saying is that they should have not change their cars at all even with all the problems they are facing with the Perdana? There's no definite answer to your question. Maybe they are McLaren-Mercedes fans? or maybe they love Germans technology? You have to ask them-lah

Me : They could have at least start by ordering an audit on the service and maintenance charges, file a complain with Proton, send their cars to Puspakom and check with other state government if they are facing the same problems.

Friend : That's true but come on-lah, if you are driving a Perdana for 4 years would you replace it with a Perdana again? I'm sure you'll want to try other models. I put half the blame on Proton. They should have come out with bigger range on executive cars. At least people could change their Perdana to let's say Proton Gemilang. So then there's no reason for them to change to other makes at all.

Me : Why didn't I think of that? But still they had just been using it for 4 years. I know people who has been driving their Perdana for more than 5 years without any major problems. Maybe they should also check on how their drivers are driving the car. Car abuser maybe? haha

Friend : Could be, since it is not all of their cars saddle with high repair bills. Anyway, we should not look at the years numbers, instead we should look at the clocked mileage. Your friend might had only clocked less than 200k mileage trips during his use of the car. On the other hand, the Perdana used by the state leaders might have clocked doubled than that in their 4 years of service. So again maybe that's the reason for that.

Me : That's my point. They should have send it for checks. Maybe the reasons for high maintenance is because of the high mileage whereby they had to change certain major parts. I'm sure if they were to use the Mercedes just like they have been using the Perdana, it would also incurred the same costs or more. Some parts you need to order from Germany, okay.

Friend : Okay, I get it. But what about the safety issues? The Mercedes has ABS, EBS, Airbags and what not. Perdana is surely lacking in that department.

Me : True. Proton just need to improve on that but I'm sure since the Perdana are meant for government leaders, they would have given them the best quality control and parts or other safety enhancements that we do not know of. Anyway, I've never driven an E200K. Is it really fuel economical compared to Perdana?

Friend : Well, depends really but I do think so. The technology is up to date and powered by a 1.8 litre supercharger delivering good horsepower and torque so it should get up to speed quickly, less strain to the engine and allows smoother driving which at the right driver should translate into better fuel consumption. Certainly not in your hands.

Me : Okay but what about overall costs? Purchase price, maintenance, fuel etc. Would it be really be cheaper in the long run?

Friend : I'm sure their state economic planning unit has done the research and calculations . Perhaps some of the researchers have made a long term test drive to prove their claims. Maybe they also got a good deal on the price, guaranteed buy back rates and thrown in some good warranties.

Me : At around 240+k per car, they better be. Mind you they can get about 31 Perdana for that price and that at retail price. Government orders would be far cheaper.

My friend's remarks left me thinking deep. My mind was full of questions and I need to find some justification. So here's my "neutral" summary based from the discussion and news reports;

1. Long term but don't know how long, the E200K is cheaper to run than the Perdana more so if you use it frequently and over long distances.

2. Mercedes gaining free publicity while their rivals are cursing their luck. I hope they could come out with more studies like this. Perhaps comparing BMW 320i and Audi A6 over long term periods. Who needs Autocar?

3. If the federal leaders can't do anything about it, the floodgates will open and spills to other states. They would really need to re-check their policies.

4. Proton you better buck up and deliver us better cars and wider range of models, especially for those upper class customers.

Now where's the Cycle & Carriage phone number, we need to book one fast. Like I wrote, its proven and endorsed by the state government to be cost effective in the long runs. Be a prudent consumer so don't wait and haggle with your calculator. Take out your cheque book and head over to the nearest showroom. Buy now before it runs out of stock. Happy National Consumers Day!

Jakarta's Limobike

Travelling across congested traffic easily but in style. By next month, people in Jakarta have the option to do just that with the launch of Ningrat Limobike, a two-wheel limosine service. No more taking a ride on motorcycle taxi or locally known as "ojeks" which is akin to going on a suicidal mission.

Remember guys, we're not delivering Pizza anymore. We're going to deliver a live one this time

According to the company's spokesman, their fleet of bright yellow Piaggio scooters comes equipped with GPS systems and wireless communication to aide directions, professional English speaking riders, high quality helmets, hair caps, protective jackets and even a special sheet to protect the modesty of women passengers wearing short skirts. The service is aimed at middle to upper class Jakartans and tourists.

It might work in Jakarta but if it is introduce here, I would really think twice before hopping on one. Have you ever seen our Pizza and McDonald's delivery riders in action? You may arrive to your destination in time but you will leave a wet patch on the passenger seat.

Terengganu Exco Still Stubborn

Why oh why we have this kind of people representing the rakyat? They love wasting the taxpayers money and now they are doing it again. I personally have several issues on today's news report. Please read some of the excerpt from The Star;

First issue;

KUALA TERENGGANU: The issue of the procurement of Mercedes cars will be the main agenda when Terengganu exco members meet in Kuala Lumpur today. It is learnt that the exco meeting this week is being held in Kuala Lumpur as the state leaders are expected to meet Federal leaders to clarify the issue.

You see what I mean? They had to meet in Kuala Lumpur just because they need to explain to the Federal leaders. Come on-lah..How many exco members Terengganu have? I guess around 11 people not including their entourage. Just imagine the cost incurred in holding the meeting in KL. The travelling allowance, the accomodation, the fuel (don't tell me they're carpooling), the meeting room, meals etc. Seriously, do all of them need to see and explain to Najib & co?

Second issue;

State Commerce, Industry and Environment committee chairman Toh Chin Yaw said insufficient safety features and costly maintenance were the reasons to replace the Proton Perdanas. Toh said his Proton Perdana had no airbags to protect passengers in case of accident.

Please explain how buying the E200 could reduce overall cost. Don't just talk about maintenance. I'm sure if you add it all up, wouldn't it be more that the incurred cost now? While there's no denying that Perdana lacks the airbag factor, are they telling us their safety is much more important than let's say the PM who is also being chauffeured in a Perdana? Proton go and fit airbags for all the VIP cars. We wouldn't want their safety to be compromised, would we?

Last but not least;

Ahmad said the excos were eligible for more expensive cars such as the Mercedes E240, but lower end Mercedes were chosen to keep costs down. “I don’t see why the procurement was made an issue.''

Go ahead and buy more expensive cars since you are all eligible for it. Buy a Maybach for all I care but use money from your own pocket. You don't see why this is an issue? It is not your own money that is why it is not an issue for you. It is an issue for the people because you are using the state government's money! Idiot..

Women more likely to erase tattoos

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Tattoos have become increasingly popular among U.S. young people, but women may be more likely than men to regret getting their "body art" so much that they try to have it removed, researchers said on Monday. A team led by Texas Tech University's Myrna Armstrong went to tattoo removal clinics in Arizona, Colorado, Massachusetts and Texas to see who was getting rid of their tattoos and why.

About two-thirds of them were women. And many said their tattoos had caused them embarrassment, drawn negative comments and created problems when choosing clothing to cover them up.

I wouldn't be surprised if the tattoo look like this

Malaysians Task Force

A newly-established task force will come up with recommendations on how Malaysians can change their unhealthy lifestyle. Health Minister was quipped saying, "Malaysians love to eat, like going for supper or taking a heavy meal before going to bed. This is unhealthy. I have directed the task force to come up with proposals to prevent the non-communicable diseases (NCD) from getting worse".

Seriously, do we really need one?, and if I may ask what have the respective departments been doing to keep the NCD in check at the first place? What then will the task force recommend Malaysians to keep their lifestyle in check? Would they need a special budget to implement their new measures?

Malaysians who engaged in high unhealthy lifestyles knew about the risk of diabetes, obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol etc. We have had so many campaigns to combat and create awareness on all of that. So what can the task force recommendations be like? Limit restaurants operating hours? Full force advertising campaigns?

It really seems that Malaysia loves to create special teams from royal commission, judicial commission, interfaith commission and now a task force. Whats next? With lots of ongoing suing action (Anwar vs Mahathir, Anwar vs IGP & AG, Raja Petra vs Najib & Rosmah), do not be surprised if we create another commission or task force to look into it. New Update - New York (reuters)- A new rule requiring New York chain restaurants to post calorie information on their menus took effect on Friday, marking a first for a U.S. city. Starting on Saturday, health inspectors can slap fines of up to $2,000 on fast-food and casual-dining chains if calorie counts are not displayed on their menus in the same font and format as the name or price of food items. Hmm..would our task force be interested to implement this?

Device To Keep Track On Love Ones Or Spouse

Need help keeping track of your love ones or even spouse? Fret not because a Spanish company called Keruve, has developed a device that helps to locate folks suffering from dementia, childhood insubordination and even those wandering spouses. Using assistance from cell phone towers in addition to standard GPS, the watch-like device uses triangulation which makes the device able to find a person even when they're indoors or when GPS is unavailable.

Bad News For Naughty Boys

The system has a GPS waterproof tracker bracelet that can only be removed with a special tool. This device is paired with a handheld unit that shows the location of the person wearing it. It even has an alarm that sounds when the battery level (which lasts about 3.5 hours) is too low. It is already available in Europe and is quite expensive but to think of its usefulness in any scenarios should make it worth every penny.

So its a good and bad news. Good news is that now you don't have to hire PI's and have around the clock access to where your loved ones are. Bad news is sometimes you really don't want to know where your loved ones are.

Public Bank Leads The Way

Today, The New Straits Times highlighted initiatives taken by some companies to help its employees cope with rising costs. While some measures taken were very good, some were just not good enough. What attracts me most is the reducing and even abolishment of interest rate by Public Bank.

Excerpt from NST - Public Bank Bhd probably leads the pack in staff loans. It has slashed rates on staff loans of RM100,000 and below to zero per cent from three per cent before. For those with housing loans of RM250,000 and below, rates have been cut to one per cent from three per cent. This reduces monthly repayments by up to 40 per cent, it calculates. The bank also almost halved interest on car loans to 2.5 per cent while slashing interest on motorcycle loans of RM5,000 and below to zero per cent.

Jenny Cheng Siew Ngoh, Public Bank's human resource general manager told Business Times that the lender's founder, Tan Sri Dr Teh Hong Piow, pushed for the measures for "immediate financial relief". The board endorsed these measures.

That is for me an effective way to really show that some big companies do have a heart. The measures taken would greatly help the most affected income group. Hopefully, Public Bank would also lead the way by slashing the interest rates for its customers. That would show that they have the biggest heart!

Terengganu Real Reasons For Buying Mercedes

The Star, Monday July 21, 2008 - MB on why Terengganu bought Mercedes cars.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The state government has defended the purchase of 14 Mercedes E200 Kompressor cars at RM3.43mil for the use of its state executive councillors and senior officials. Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said the state government had planned to purchase the cars for a long time now to replace its Proton Perdana V6 Executive fleet in a move to cut cost.

You see when reading the news, sometimes we have to understand "the real meaning behind the written words". In this case, below are some interpretation of the real reasons;

“Please understand that the Proton Perdanas go through continuous long-distance journeys. It’s costing us a lot of money due to high cost of maintenance. “We are not saying that the national car is not good but in reality we are coughing up more money for maintaining the Proton Perdanas, particularly the gear boxes,” he said. Ahmad cited the example of the Proton Perdana of state Commerce, Industry and Environment committee chairman Toh Chin Yaw, which has twice undergone expensive repairs costing RM50,000 within 36 months.

Meaning..

The contract for maintaining the old fleet cars belongs to the previous MB's cronies. It was too lucrative for our liking and we decided that it should be awarded to our cronies. To make it not look so obvious we had to change the car manufacturer as well. If we were to buy Proton again, they might end up getting their contract renewed.

“In the long run, Mercedes cars are cheaper to maintain and could also save us fuel costs. “This is the state’s long-term plan – we are farsighted. The cars could also fetch a high market price, when sold as second-hand cars.

Meaning..

The state govt pays for the fuel cost so we save a lot. Anyway, We are not going to use this model for long so when we decide to upgrade, the extra price difference would not be noticeable. We plan to change to E230 later and then maybe S-class. We are farsighted.

“We studied all angles before deciding to buy the Mercedes E200 cars,” he added.

Meaning..

We looked at the brochures and even arrange for the cars to be brought to the exco meeting for test drives. We carefully look at all angles of the car and it is marvelous. The curves are just sleek and elegant.

Food Crisis World Hunger

It is sad to see here in Malaysia the amount of food wastage happening around us daily. It is more saddening when you got to know in certain poor countries, death cause by hunger is on the rise. Those who survived suffer long term implications such as distorted growth due to malnourished. In North Korea, where food shortages and famine have been prevalent for years, the average adolescent is 18 centimeters shorter than his counterpart in South Korea.

Today, as WTO and government struggles to control food prices from spiraling out of control; the worry is that millions more in poor countries will be lost to its ravages. Food related riots have also been reported in 22 countries and it will spread to more countries if the prices are not stabilized. The last food crisis back in mid 70’s too was because of rising oil prices which made farming more expensive coupled with natural disasters and bad government policy.

Economists predict that while slower global growth may help ease commodity prices, it’s clear that cheap food would be a thing in the past. While natural disasters are beyond our power, we have some control to ensure the crisis is contained. Overhauling the agriculture industries, reducing dependent on oil and re-strategizing government policies are just some of the immediate initiatives we should take. The measures needed to attain this are not foreign, the world just has to unite and head into one clear direction.

It's the stupid politics. The world's poor are paying the price for years of bad trade government policy in agriculture. For example, Japan doesn't need any of the rice it buys abroad but they are a big importer for one reason; the World Trade Organization demanded it become one. Last year Japan imported 770,000 tons of unwanted and unneeded rice. All in the name of free trade.

We ourselves should take the lead at home and help reduce unwanted wastage's. Remember, moderation is the key.

Habits Worth Emulating

Just watched Top Gear's latest episode. I really do envy Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. They have got the best job in the world! at least for petrol heads. In that episode, they went to Japan to test drive the new Nissan GT-R and they chose to do that by having a race across Japan. Racing across west to east Japan, Jeremy will be driving the GT-R while both Richard and James will travel onto a series of trains, buses, and even a cable car, to reach their destination. Anyway, that is not what the post is all about.

Interestingly, while Richard and James were in the bullet train, they read about how punctual the train services are. Anything more than one minute off the time schedule is considered late. And if unfortunately they do arrived late to the destination, passengers could demand from the train service provider, to issue a letter stating the delay and took full responsibility. I managed to stumbled upon a good article by Kathy, a blogger living in Japan whom has managed to list 10 Japanese habits worth emulating.

Please read her full post here.

Question of the year

We were watching the news when my eldest son blurt out a tough question. He had asked, "what is sodomy?" or word by word, "ayah, liwat tu apa?". I am in quandary simply because I didn't tell him the truth. Heck, ask me anything else like how high is the sky and I will surely think my way out of it in a zippy. So what I did to answer him was, "I don't know". Now, I felt that I should have said something else. I don't know what but at least a better answer for him. So what are your take on this?

I've prepared a poll (on the right sidebar) to which action would be best to take when face in this kind of situation. Do spare a couple of seconds to vote!

When Humans Are Worse Than Animals

Sad but true. Each time you browse the newspaper, you'll see reports of murder, assault and rape. It's too rampant that to read a newspaper without reading one vicious act would raise an eyebrow. Now it seems a new type of criminal is on the rise. The one who is supposed to protect and love you is the one hurting you.

Nowadays, the damned act of raping their own daughter it seems is one the rise. Studies done in the US by The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network or RAINN showed that 73% of sexual assault victims were perpetrated by a non-stranger and 7% are a relative. 60% of rapes/sexual assaults are not reported to the police. Those rapists, of course, never spend a day in prison. Factoring in unreported rapes, only about 6% of rapists ever serve a day in jail. Another alarming figure, 15% of sexual assault and rape victims are under age 12, 29% are age 12-17and 44% are under age 18.

In Malaysia, on average, three adult women are raped every day. Police statistics also reveal that 60 per cent of rape victims are below 16 years of age, while 98 per cent of the offenders are over the age of 16. Statistic of rape cases have shot up from 1,217 in year 2000 to 2,431 in 2006. While statistic on incest cases too have steadily climb to 332 in year 2006 from 213 in year 2000. There were 109 reported incest rape cases from January to June last year. This numbers includes fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, brothers, uncles, cousins and close relatives.

Under the Penal Code (Amendment) Bill 2001, those charged with incest face a heavier penalty compared with non-incest rape. For incest, the law provides for a jail term of between six and 20 years and 24 strokes of the cane. Rapes carry a jail term of not less than five years and whipping. It doesn't seem to deter the offenders and I support any heavier punishment proposed.

Here are some recent news gathered around the world on this inhuman act;

"Tennesee, US. A man was arrested last week for allegedly raping his teenage daughter. Court records indicate the alleged offender, 37, was charged with rape, aggravated sexual battery and incest on July 2. Records said the victim in the case, 16, is the daughter of the offender. She told authorities her father had been having sexual intercourse with her against her will for about a year. The girl also alleged that her father performed sex acts on her and fondled her body. According to records, the girl’s father coerced her into his bedroom, where the acts allegedly took place.Records said the offender knew at the time of the offenses that the victim didn’t consent".

"Vadodara, July 15: A man has been arrested on charges of raping his minor daughter in his house in Sindhrot village near here, police said on Monday. In a complaint lodged with the Talauka police station in Vadodara, a minor girl alleged that her father, a small-time businessman was raping her for the last two years. She said her mother had left him two years ago".

"A Mexican truck driver convicted of raping his four young daughters, two of whom were made pregnant and gave birth, was sentenced to 15 years in jail. The youngest daughter, 11, gave birth to a child in 2006 while her father was driving his rig in northern Mexico in the company of his eldest 15-year-old daughter, whom he was sexually abusing at the time, prosecutors said in a statement. In 2006, the father also raped his other two daughters, who were 12 and 13 at the time. The older daughter also became pregnant and gave birth to a child. Arrested in 2007, the man, claimed he did not force himself on any of his daughters but that he just asked them not to tell their mum what they had done. The mother who was thrown out of her own home by her husband testified during the trial that at first she did not report the crimes hoping her husband would change his ways, but that she eventually relented to pressure from one of her daughters."

"5 March 2008, Kuala Lumpur. A general worker and father of five was sentenced to 45 years’ jail and 15 strokes of the cane for sodomizing and raping his underaged daughter. His children have been handed over to the Welfare Department. The daughter was first sodomized in their Sentul flat toilet on 18 July 2003 when she was 13 years old. The judge gave 15 years of jail time for each of the two sodomy charges and a rape charge. The father was also given five strokes of the cane for each of the charges".

"23 August 2007, Shah Alam. A 45-year-old former general worker with the Selayang Municipal Council was sentenced to 50 years jail and 24 strokes of the cane for raping and molesting his three daughters aged between 14 and 16. The father was found guilty of six counts of rape and three counts of outraging the modesty of the girls. The girls were to take to the witness stand before the father changed his plea to guilty".

Last but not least..

"An Austrian man has confessed to imprisoning his daughter in a windowless cellar for her entire adult life and fathering her seven children. The 42-year-old woman told police that her father, Josef Fritzl, 73, lured her into the basement of the block where they lived in the town of Amstetten in 1984 and drugged and handcuffed her before imprisoning her".

Reckless Driving aka Road Bully

Have you ever dream of having a car just like James Bond? Where you have all this gadgets like missiles. fire burner, grease & smoke dump, sharp cutting drill bits..you get my drift. At a press of a button or voice control activation (its my dream!), you could annihilate those inconsiderate selfish scum drivers. That was what I was hoping for when last week I encountered 2 cars that fits RDRD or Reckless Driving aka Road Bully.

Me and my family was heading home late after dinner when we first saw this 2 Third generation Honda Civic cars turning right at a traffic junction from the middle lane. Immediately, they started racing each other zig-zagging between the 2 lanes. They stopped at a traffic light and continue their antics up to the following traffic lights. As they were stuck behind a slow moving car (honking crazy) at the second stop, we managed to overtake them before we had to stop at the third light.

This is where it turns awry. As the light turns green, we start moving and we were on the right lane. After about 50 meters, the lane temporarily became 3 lanes (for about 20 meters) to accommodate vehicles turning to the right junction. As the lane opens up, we were then in the middle lane when we heard the 2 cars started racing again behind us. As the road became narrower to come back into 2 lanes, the 2 cars were trying to overtake me from the outer narrowing lane forcing me to brake hard to avoid side collision.

My wife and kids were shocked and I was pissed off and swearing inside my car momentarily forgetting the kids were with me. I gave them a chase with headlights and horn blazing until they slowed down to stop at a petrol station. I slowed too and gave them a piece of my mind. They stopped momentarily and I guess they were bewildered that somebody gave them a verbal scolding. Not too far from the station, I too had to stopped for the traffic light and it prompted them to came by and block my car from side and front.

At first the RDRB car on our left side starts to ask me whats my problem. Then the driver of the front RDRB car came out to me and asked me sadistically whether they had hit my car and when I replied that I had to brake hard with my family onboard, he replied, so whats the problem. When I raise up my voice and told him that they were driving like lunatics, he then threaten to hit me with his fist.Reflexively, I too showed him my fist. My wife knows I don't give a damn if I get into a fight since my motto is "It doesn't matter if you get beaten as long as you hit them hard too". She urged me to just drive off and to think of them instead.

So naturally, I regained my composure, drive off with my middle finger trailing out the window. Guess what? they didn't even follow us home. Maybe its because I have my family onboard so they decide not to exercise their "yakuzaness".

So guys, be careful when you encounter this kind of drivers, they might not even sober. Who in the right mind would drive like that? unless they are drunk, high on drugs or just plain crazy and the latter you wouldn't want to mess with.

Smoking benefits

Light one. It’s your right according to FORCES International. It is an organization in support of human rights and - in particular, but not limited to – the defense of those who expect from life the freedom to smoke, to enjoy personal lifestyle choices without restrictions and state interference. FORCES are an acronym of Fight Ordinances and Restrictions to Control and Eliminate Smoking. Cool huh?

Here is what I found on the benefits of smoking;

Smoking is one of the main ways people handle stressful situations. Just the simple act of smoking allows you to go outside the office to smoke. Think about it. Going outside:
  • Allows you leave the stress
  • Puts you in a different environment
  • Allows you to clear your head
Also, the way you smoke can be relaxing. Taking a deep puff and holding it in for a few seconds is very similar to what’s called relaxation breathing. In relaxation breathing, you take a deep breath, hold it in for a few seconds, and then exhale slowly.

Another benefit of smoking is that is lessens feeling of depression or anxiety. It’s the nicotine in your cigarettes that is responsible for making these feelings go away. Think of the nicotine as a medication, and your cigarette as a medication delivery device. After taking a puff, the nicotine in the smoke travels to your brain where is causes a chemical reaction. This reaction is what picks up your mood or lessens anxiety.

Another beneficial aspect of smoking is that it keeps the weight down. Cigarettes do this by:
  • Keeping food in your stomach longer
  • Suppressing your appetite
  • Artificially speeding up your metabolism
"Smoking burns up an extra 300 calories each day"
and also your lung and money.

Actually, I am in a constant state of giving up smoking and was looking around on most effective ways to do so when I stumbled upon these. Still, the quit benefits outweighs the above. Hence, I will try and quit smoking after this one stick..on another thought, after this last pack. Why waste it.

More on FORCES here.

Wedding Gift

(Reuters) - Guests at an Israeli wedding hall can now insert a credit card into a machine at its entrance, tap in a sum and leave a gift for the bride and groom.

"It's new in Israel and the world," Aya Alon Kaufman of the Gan Oranim hall in Tel Aviv said on Israel's Channel 10 television. "It's very convenient ... guests can give a gift even if they forget their chequebooks." She said couples pay 500 shekels ($155) to rent the device, which resembles an automated teller machine, and the recorded funds are transferred into their bank account the next day.

The machine, shown being used in the television report, prints out a "deposit" slip with the guest's name, which can be put into an envelope along with a congratulatory note and inserted into a slot in the device for the couple to retrieve. Rather than bring boxed gifts, guests at Israeli weddings usually leave cash or cheques in envelopes they slip into a safe placed at the reception hall's door.

That's akward since its hard to be discreet on your "generosity", don't you think?

Mattel, the toy company has launched Parents Place, a BarbieGirls.com area educating parents about online play and safety. Last year's they launched Parents Account, a feature allowing parents to control their child's chat settings which has been widely received with more than 14 million registered users worldwide.

They are indeed going in the right direction tapping the power of internet technology and marketing notably in using a subscription model. The first-ever global virtual world introduced exclusively for girls hoped to provide safe and fun experiences for kids, and unparalleled experience for parents.

When the decline of sales for BarbieGirls product became apparent years ago, they had to create the divorce between Barbie and Ken in hope to boost and regain interest. Well, do expect more innovations from Mattel since their reborn has just begun.

War Made Easy

Utter shock yet compelling. That's the only way I could describe the short documentary based on Normon Solomon's book of the same title. Narrated by Sean Penn, Normon an author and media critic, evidently showed that since WWII, the US have conveniently used war to defend or accurately guarding their own interest. The documentary with archive footage of politicians and mainstream media, showed that wars are craftily produced and sold to the American public and the world with no remorse. Any dissenting voices are quickly stigmatized as "anti-American" and silenced.

He further demonstrates that all those wars are based on a fundamental and founding lie. Vietnam was based on the lie about the attack on two US battleship by the North Vietnamese in the Gulf of Tonkin just as much as the war on Iraq is based on the lie about the Weapons of Mass Destruction. Then he demonstrates how the press is literally forced into supporting the war though apparently very few are willing not to support it and the vast majority of media people are willing to support these adventures or ventures. Apparently, only a few senators and congressmen voted againts the wars.

My conclusion is that if we are not careful, an effective media propaganda will influences us in just about all our decisions. Solomon notes, "If you say something enough times, it starts to sound true." So go on and watch it, then make up your own mind.

Read the synopsis here.

Change

Ask any kids what they want to be when they grow up and most of the times the replies would be a doctor, pilot, policeman, soldier and prime minister and of course, a superhero. Have you heard any kids wanting to be a politician? I haven’t. Why not? It’s a noble profession but yet today its synonym with scandals, corruption and misuse of power. What actually happen to the young men and women who aspire to serve the community, help the needy, correct the wrongdoings and strive for the nation’s future? When did the transitions begin and why did they change? The answer almost certainly would be power and money.

I would suggest those aspiring and seasoned politicians to rejuvenate their passion and ask themselves again, why and when in their life did they choose to become one. Do seek positive ambitions and do your utmost for it. Work hard for the people who voted and trusted you and start winning their hearts! Fulfill your promises and put your best effort everyday as you did during election season.

A good way to start is by watching the currently airing Japanese drama aptly named “Change”. The plot revolves around “Asakura Keita” an elementary teacher played by Takuya Kimura who unwillingly contested in an election due to the death of his politician father. He's innocence of the negative politics machinations and dedication to "keeping his promise to the people" thus bring about the "change" that Japan needs. It could remind viewers, in a way that's easy to digest, of the self-serving nature of politics and how it's led to the current malaise in government.

Summing up, "Change" could do us all some good.

Malaysia's Olympian

After months of grueling physical and mental preparations, they are finally ready to unleash their full potential for the world to witness. Sweats, tears and anguish have finally paid off. Now it's showtime!
Welcome to the CEC 2008 Olympiad where everybody is a winner. Yes, you read it right. Every child received a medal regardless if he or she even sleeps on the track floor. The important thing is that they had embrace the Olympic spirit by participating for honor and country-well that's exaggerating. Since CEC had lots of students, the event had to be divided into two session, morning and afternoon. Wisely, they held it at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil so weather is not an issue. Parking was adequate albeit a bit far thus warming up exercise was automatically settled. Anyway, some kids were full of spirit and some you may say, doesn't really know why they are there. Laughter and cries fills the stadium yet almost everybody had fun.
I must say I was quite disappointed with some of the parents whom were not taking other peoples blocked view into consideration. They were standing and crowding the front spectators area thus blocking almost all the track view. Stalls selling foods are quite expensive with Nasi Ayam selling at RM5.00.
End of the day, the teachers look tired and everyone else is just glad that the day's over.

Fans of BBC motoring show Top Gear adores him and yet his real identity remains a well guarded secret. Last weekend it seems he had impressed F1 star, Fernando Alonso with his driving skills. The double world champion was quoted saying "Whoever's in that car is a seriously good driver," and that he has no idea who he is, but he's definitely ex-F1.

Clad in his famous white racing overalls and helmet - took behind the wheel of a two-seater Santander grand prix car as he lapped the circuit before the F1 cars took to the starting grid on Sunday ahead of the British Grand Prix. His presence at Silverstone came about when a man who had won £5million on the lottery bought three passenger laps with him in the two-seater machine around Silverstone, after bidding £35,000 for the experience in a Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital charity auction.

And living up to his fearless reputation, The Stig certainly made sure his passenger got value for money, excelling on a wet surface with no traction control, no driver aids on cold hard Avon wet tyres and even letting the back step out at almost 180mph. News Source

In Pursuit of Baby Happiness

Choosing a baby stroller is no stroll in the park. There are so many brands and types to choose from it makes buying a new car much easier. Then there's the factors of price, functionality, size, weight, folding mechanism, handle reversible system, canopy size, age suitability and so on. I was set to buy this one brand but since the price of another "branded" stroller wasn't far off, I thought why not? Then saw another brand that is just a little bit pricey and again decided on it. My set budget is now officially off track and if this continue I might just have to flip a coin.

Later, friends was telling me that it is much cheaper to buy one in Singapore. So I did travel down to see it for myself in a one day trip. After an exhaustive run around the island, my conclusion is that the price in certain stores are indeed a bit cheaper but it will be a lot cheaper during their Great Sale. So if you have a lot of baby stuff to buy then it might worth making the journey down.

Other alternative would be buying it online. Some sites do have competitive price and best offer periods. Below are some of the online baby shops available online in Malaysia:
  1. LittleWhiz
  2. Mothercare
  3. Cutelittlebbstore
  4. Bebehaus
  5. Planet Enfants
  6. The First Few Years
  7. My Dear
Do check them regularly. The only drawback is that you are unable to check or test the products thoroughly but that is just a minor setback. Go visit all the baby boutiques (some of the above have online site and boutique) and have a field test day and once you have decided on which suits you or your baby best, compare the offer and you are ready to make the purchase online or at the store.

Here's more alternative links to blow your mind.
  1. Just Stroller.com
  2. Strollers.com
  3. StrollerIdeas
  4. BabyStrollerShop
Hope it helps you to decide which stroller is best for you. Hopefully by the time I ever decide on one, my baby would still fit in.

G8 leaders biggest headache

What better ways to discuss the global food crisis by discussing it over 18 course dinner. Well who can blame them? A serious discussion on ways to combat world food hunger would definitely whip up an appetite. So what's the damage in monetary to assemble all the top leaders of the world together? The total cost of staging the event on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido is estimated at £285m, dwarfing the £85m Britain spent on the Gleneagles summit three years ago. Part of it was wasted at the opulent Windsor Hotel in Toya, far away from the general public and with 20,000 special police officers for security. Sixty chefs were flown in for the occasion, foremost among them the Michelin-starred Katsuhiro Nakamura. Seems money is not an issue but G8's biggest headache is, seating plan for dinner.

War Theme Restaurant

Being surrounded by sandbag while having lunch usually would be a nightmare but a restaurant in Beirut has just done the opposite. A war theme restaurant where all the decor reflects being in a military and war environment has been getting good response in a country that is used to it. Its food are even wrapped in camouflage paper and the chefs wearing military fatigues and helmets. I wonder if their ambiance music plays the sounds of mortars exploding and AK-47 dishing out hell of fire. We have already seen Toilet theme restaurants. So what's next? I was hoping for a Bedroom theme restaurant so that when our belly is full, we can just tuck in for a good sleep!

Job Search

These days in the information technology age, job search are supposed to be a breeze. What you'll need is a resume in word or pdf, an email account, register in any recruitment agencies websites and point your mouse to any vacancy offered and click! That's it. But in reality, it is never that simple for job seekers today to find their dream job. Technology has made it easier to find jobs but it does not increase your chances of getting one.

The rules have changed simply because it is easier for either fresh graduates or those seeking greener pastures elsewhere to look for jobs online. Back in the 80's or early 90's, people have to actually print out their resumes, make photocopies of their certificates, get themselves a passport photo and send their application via regular mail. That's a lot of things to do compared to what we are doing today. You really need to put some effort into it and fork out money in order to apply for jobs. Just imagine how much money do you have to spend to apply for a few jobs? The stamps, envelopes, passport photos, cert copies etc. It makes you only apply to the jobs that you really wants or feel confidence on getting.

Today however is so convenience that job seekers sometimes just put in their application for the sake of trying. What happened is that the number of applicants ballooned tremendously. I would guess that in any vacancy posted, you'll easily see more than 100 applicants in just one online recruitment agency. I wouldn't be surprised if it's more. A friend of mine in HR once told me some interesting stories. In one job adverts, they had received more than 2000 applicants so since there are so many applicants using online recruitment services or e-mails, they had to improvise their selection or shortlisting process:
  1. Discard CV more than 5 pages.
  2. Dismiss CV that is not visually attractive eg; layout, fonts
  3. If they don't like your face, you're deleted.
So what we are facing now is more competition from true desperate job seekers, bored unmotivated employees and no nonsense HR personnel's. Come to think of it, I do sometimes believe that apart from qualifications and experience, we'll need a bit more of luck in finding our dream jobs. Good luck!

Natural urges prompted the male lion to display his mating skills for us to see "wildlife in action". I was having a hard time explaining the "MMA" moves to my kids.

Buying Impulse

What attracts people to buy things they don't really need or to choose which products suits them best? Exactly what triggers the human brain to decide yes or no? Researches have shown that one key factor is the visual stimulation. Behavioral studies indicates that shoppers are likely to lean towards buying products that is packaged craftily either by designs, colours or shapes. Successful manufactures particularly in FMCG industries spend millions of dollars in R&D to come out with an attractive packaging.

I am truly an avid fan of creative packaging. Sometimes or most of the time, the package box itself gives a sense of fulfillment of purchase. Apple for example, with their variety of innovative products demonstrate just that. They have successfully understands the concept of consumer marketing and come out with products that are not technologically new in the market but certainly an improved and enhanced products compared to their competitors. Those sassy products are marketed to consumers as a "have to own" gadgets that portrays a totally up to date image. They are selling lifestyle rather than products and it starts right from the packaging!

So next time you go out to the mall, pay close attention to the packaging. Or not to close coz you might end up buying things that you certainly do not need.

Koleksi Kad Kredit

So bacalah termanya betul-betul sebelum mohon.
